HIRARC : Term And Definitions

HIRARC provide an objective measure of the identified hazards and provides a method for controlling risk. It is one of the general duty of the employer to provide a safe workplace for their employees and others associated in order to implement occupational safety and health.

HIRARC Term And Definitions
  • Hazard means a source or a situation which has the potential for harm in terms of injury or ill health of humans, property damage, environmental damage, or a combination of these.
  • Hazard control means the process of taking steps to reduce the risk associated with hazards.
  • Hierarchy of control means an order of priority set for the type of measures that will be used to control risk.
  • Hazard identification means the identification of undesired events that led to the existence of the hazard and the mechanism which allows the undesired events can happen.
  • Risk means a combination of the likelihood of a hazardous event with such that period or in such circumstances and the severity of injury or damage to the health of individuals, property, environment or any combination of these caused by the event.
  • Risk assessment means the evaluation process of risks to safety and health arising from hazards in the workplace.
  • Risk management means the whole procedure related for identifying hazards, assessing risks, establishing control measures, and review the results.
