Excavation


Excavation - Construction sites pose a risk not only for construction workers, but also to the public who move around the site or those who live near the construction site. Among the resulting danger is that changes in the levels of surface soil, excavation work and trenches.

Excavation Hazard / Risk :

  • Buried.
  • People / objects / equipment falling into the hole.
  • Damage to underground facilities - cable / pipe .
  • Drowning .
  • Electric shock .
  • Trapped Gas .
  • Lack of Oxygen .


General Prevention :

  • Ensure perfect shoring - support the excavated trench .
  • Begin excavation by using hand excavating to avoid damage to the cable / pipe .
  • Do not place the equipment / work closer to the hole - an area of 1.0 m height of the hole should be emptied.
  • Perform daily checks before the start / resume the job , especially after the rain & storms.
  • Use PPE properly ( helmet , gloves , safety shoes & breathing filter / mask ) .
  • Installing a barrier to the hole, and put the flashing warning lights at night.
  • Make sure the person in charge of always being out of the hole to help if needed .
  • Ladders should be provided for every 7.5 m for excavation work in the more than 1.2 m.
