Safety Harness - If working in a high-risk fall, workers must wear a full body harness. Safety harnessis personal fall protection equipment. A full body harnessmade of ropethrough the shoulders, chest, and legs around. In the fall, afull body harness provides protection more than safety belt. This is becauseit distributes the impact force over a larger area of the wearer’s body.

The arrows on the shoulder straps point to the only D-ring on the harness that is designed to safely arrest the fall. This is a full body harness used to arrest a fall.Note that the D-ring located between the shoulder blades.
Inspecting a full body harness
Inspect your harness before each use. Carefully check the buckles, webbing, the D-ring, and label manufacturerfor additional consumer information. If the harnesshas the effects of damaged or worn, do not wear it.

Many of the full body harnesses have interlocking buckles called friction buckles. Look out for bent, crackedor nicked buckles. Test buckles toensure the safecoupling.

Check the condition of the webbing
Examine carefully frayed, cracked, cut, burned,or damaged webbingand loose or broken stitching.
D-ring
Check D-rings if anyeffects like bent, cracked ring, nicked, orgouged rings.
Manufacturer's label
Check the manufacturer's label on the harness. The manufacturer’s label in full body harnesses approved willcontain the following information:
• Manufacturer identification
• Size of harness
• Date the harness was manufactured
• The model number
Some harnesses are designed to provide more than one purpose. Check the manufacturer's label for the classification of the harness.

Wear full body harnesses
Adjust all hardwareand harness strapsto fit snugly, butstill allows you to move freely. Tuck in all loose strapsso they do not snag or cause you to trip. Hook on the harness D-ring (marked "A") is designed to catchfalls.
