Health Hazard

Health Hazard Definition

Occupational health hazard is any agent that can cause disease to individuals. Health hazards can cause serious and immediate (acute), or may cause long-term (chronic). All or part of the body can be affected.

A person suffering from occupational diseases may not recognize the symptoms immediately. For example, noise-induced hearing loss is often difficult to detect by the individuals affected until the disease is well advanced.

Health Hazard Categories

Health hazards including chemicals (such as battery acid and solvent), biological hazards (such as bacteria, viruses, dust and mildew), physical agents (energy sources are strong enough to harm the body, such as electricity, heat, light, vibration, noise and radiation) and hazard work design (ergonomics).
