HIRARC

HIRARC - In the development of workplace safety today, Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Risk Control (HIRARC) has been the practice of planning, management and business operations as a basic of risk management. Organisation which has carried out a risk assessment in the workplace have found some changes in their working practices.


Those who have carried out a risk assessment in the workplace has been informed about a positive change in the practice of their work, and they realize that any substandard action and working condition as they develop and take necessary corrective action. Legislation should also require a process of systematic and documented so that the results are reliable and the analysis is complete. The risk assessment process should be carried out continuously and can not be considered a one-off exercise.

In line with the approach of preventive measures as a way to implement the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), it seems that HIRARC has become very important. With HIRARC, which as a tool that will be able to identify hazards, analyze and assess the risks associated with it and then apply control measures as appropriate.

This article and the next series should give guidance on methods of conducting HIRARC, it should be easy enough to be used by small and medium industries and should be versatile enough to be used by all the various sectors of the economy, whether in the manufacturing sector, the construction sector or any other economic sectors.

The HIRARC methodology as proposed in a series of guides that will come later on HIRARC is intended for assessment of physical hazards. Those who intend to assess health hazards in their workplaces, need to use another risk assessment guidelines that are specifically designed for such purpose.
