Hot work is a term used to describe the heat and spark producing operations. In other words, hot work is any work that involves burning, welding, using fire or spark producing tools, or that produces a source of ignition.

Hot Work Hazard / Common Risk : 

    Common hazards exist in the workplace is associated with open flames or sparks which could ignite any airport flammable gases and vapours. In addition, hot work itself can produce toxic fumes and gases.
    More severe effects as a result of these activities can lead to:       
            - Explosion Occurred 
            - Fire Disaster 

General Prevention: 

  • Use tools and equipment that are not protected (non-IS) is prohibited in the tank of LPG and diesel. 
  • Work permit (Hot Work Permit) is a must for work involving ignition (such as welding, cutting, grinding, use of equipment that is no protection) in a dangerous place. 


Examples of sources of ignition: 

  • Grinding activities 
  • Welding works

Safety measures in welding work:

Steps should be taken when handling safety welding workshop. Among the safety aspects that need to be emphasised include:
  • Wearing safety clothing (Personal Protective Equipment, PPE) including ear protection, google, face shields, safety shoes and leather gloves.
  • Checking the equipment to be used in good condition and functioning. Make sure the safety function. Report to your supervisor any damaged machine workshop.
  • Make Sure good ventilation during the process of welding and gas welding process can be dangerous from flowing out (exhausted) through ventilation ducts (fume extractor).
  • Welding work material handling should be done with caution to avoid injury. Use proper equipment to remove the heat of the workpiece.
  • Make Sure the working environment in a safe condition. cables should also be neat and do not pose any danger during the welding process.
